PROGRAM OVERVIEW
36 Hours
The Master of Human Relations with an emphasis in Community Service (MHRCS) degree curriculum blends theory, research and practice with a focus on preparing service providers to aid individuals who need support and coping skills restoration, to understand people who have been alienated or disenfranchised from society and to more effectively reach and communicate with all people.

The specific emphasis of Community Services within the MHR degree general curriculum may be individually designed to fit professional and personal goals. Career development is often enhanced by careful selection of specific community assistance related courses from Human Relations and other departments as electives in order to create a personalized emphasis such as family systems, education, chemical dependency, abuse intervention, adolescent issues, or counseling.
The Department of Human Relations provides the educational knowledge needed to prepare people for and to assist them in positions requiring skills in human resource development, an understanding of minority groups and affirmative action programs, methods for developing individualized coping skills and creative problem solving skills, crisis intervention strategies, drug and chemical abuse training, restoration of family support systems to combat abuse, rehabilitation of incarcerated offenders and group leadership development.
ELIGIBILITY
The Department of Human Relations offers a degree only at the master's level and does not have either an undergraduate or doctoral degree program. Therefore admission to the program is limited to those students who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree program. Undergraduate degrees may be from a variety of social, behavioral, natural or physical sciences academic disciplines. Because the study of human relations is an interdisciplinary educational program, most undergraduate degrees are acceptable. There are no coursework prerequisite requirements for admission to the program.
